Autumn is a Spectacular Time to Visit the Northeastern U.S.
The Fall is one of the most popular times to tour New England. Visitors come from across the country to view Mother Nature's spectacular Fall foliage show. While there's never a guarantee as to just when the leaves will start to turn, in general the first and second weeks of October are a safe bet. To experience all the area has to offer, fly into one of New York City's airports and
drive through Connecticut and Massachusetts into Vermont. It will take you 4 to 5 hours to get there, but the scenery will be well worth it and I guarantee that your camera will be snapping away the entire time!
If you're looking for something to do in addition to seeing pretty leaves, New England will not disappoint you. September and October are prime time for picking pumpkins, going on hayrides and visiting county fairs. Just over the Connecticut border on I-91 is the biggest of them all -- The Big "E". For 17 days each September, Springfield, Massachusetts plays host to the largest fair in the Northeast, the Eastern States Exposition. Just a short distance away in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, is the world's largest candle store and the birthplace of Yankee Candle.
When you reach Southern Vermont, be sure to visit the Adams Farm in Wilmington where you can pick and carve your own pumpkins or take a wagon ride to Southern Vermont's largest bonfire pit to feast on marshmallow kebobs dipped in chocolate!
As you head north, take a detour to Warren to visit Clay Brook in Lincoln Peak Village. This resort has 61 luxurious wholly-owned and fractional residences right at the base of Sugarbush. Their inventory is almost gone, but there are still some spectacular residences available, and a few are even pet-friendly.
What would Fall be without an Oktoberfest? Head north on Route 89 until you reach Stowe and you will be able to enjoy some bratwurst and Heineken at the 11th Annual Stowe Oktoberfest!
Not a beer connoisseur? Visit the Trapp Family Lodge's Wine Cellar to taste some of the newest releases from California. Don't imbibe too much, as you will certainly want to take a tour of The Villas at Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe's premier Private Residence Club.
Take a day trip over to Burlington to partake in the Flynn Fine Wine and Food Festival or just relax and spend some time at the Church Street Marketplace to enjoy some fine shopping. You are certain to meet some interesting people there!
When you get back to Stowe, head on over to Spruce Peak to see the progress on The Front Four Private Residence Club, scheduled to open this coming ski season.
Whether it's the foliage you're after, traditional Fall festivals and activities or a search for a luxurious fractional residence, New England is the only place to be in the Fall.
