Destination clubs are an investment to those who love to travel and receive exclusive services and 5-star amenities. Resort facilities include amenities such as fireplaces, brand new appliances, hot tubs, home theater systems, golf course access, movies and games, wet bars, and much more.

The Ritz-Carlton® has 91 luxury hotels and resorts throughout the world, including locations in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Other establishments the Ritz-Carlton® partners with include certain locations of BULGARI Hotels and Resorts, some Marriott locations, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and more.

The Ritz-Carlton® offers what is known as the Ritz-Carlton® Destination Club. This is referred to as an “equity club.” Members of this club have access to high class, private homes and top of the line travel services. There are two types of memberships, the Home Club Membership and the Vacation Club Points Membership.

Problems With Value

Unfortunately, the Ritz-Carlton destination club has had problems with depreciation.  Some owners have lost 80% of their original investment.

Home Club Membership

The Home Club Membership is perfect for travelers who prefer to visit the same place every year. Members purchase a fractional deeded interest in one of the properties. The Ritz-Carlton® makes the interest deeded so membership can be passed down within the family. Being a Home Club member means the individual buys into a specific property.

For fractional ownership, owners buy a share of the property. This typically ranges between 1/16 and 1/4. Depending on how much money the member puts down, they get a certain amount of nights they can choose to stay there per year. The more money spent, the more nights allowed. These homes usually have two-to-three bedrooms and Ritz-Carlton® fractional owners are provided with some of the same 5-star services other Ritz-Carlton® residences offer. Fractional ownerships are a great way to own a vacation home part of the year and not have to pay full price for the house.

Home Club Members get between 21 and 28 guaranteed nights per year they can stay at their Club location; however, they are also allowed access to all the other Ritz-Carlton® Club residences. This membership also offers optional enrollment with The Lion & Crown Travel Co., LLC, which provides opportunities for members to also stay at the Marriott Vacation Club Destinations.

Vacation Club Points Ownership

Members who prefer to travel to various locations can choose to join the Vacation Club. With this membership, members buy a deeded beneficial trust that holds title to real estate. Like the Home Club Membership, the fact the interest is deeded means members can pass the equity ownership down to their families. They do not buy into a specific property.

The Vacation Club ownership works through a points-based currency system. Members receive an allotted number of points each year, and each Ritz-Carlton® location “costs” a different amount of points based on the specific resort, the size of members’ parties, the number of times members plan on staying, and the season. Members can choose to stay at other Ritz-Carlton® locations as well as over 50 Marriott Vacation Club Resorts.
